Exciting news for Awamaki! As of May 2, 2014, we have been certified as a Fair Trade organization, meaning that our prices provide fair wages for the women in the cooperatives with whom we work. Since the founding of Awamaki, our mission has been to supply women the opportunity to support their families and continue the weaving traditions with fair wages, but it’s nice to see it in writing!
Now that the Fair Trade Federation (FTF) has given us their stamp of approval, we have new opportunities to expand our international wholesale market and build new relationships with the FTF network. A perfect example of this kind of market expansion is the upcoming California Gift Show; featured in the World’s Goods platform, Awamaki is excited for our first show on the west coast, and we have been gearing up at the office to show off our new Holiday Collection and color palette. Because the FTF is hosting a huge platform of retailers at the show, this is the perfect chance to connect with other Fair Trade organizations and expand our markets.
For those of you near the Los Angeles area, the show is July 18th through the 21st at the LA Convention Center and we are booth #1223! If you are not in the area but still want to support us, we are in the process of rebooting our Awamaki Lab online store, so check it out!
